What is an (Accelerated) Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)?

The BSN is an entry-level degree that enables a graduate to be eligible to sit for the National Council of State Boards of Nursing Licensure Exam for Registered Nurse (NCLEX-RN). The BSN degree program admits students who have already earned a bachelor's degree in another field, thus shortening the time required to graduate with the credits necessary and other prerequisites to take the NCLEX-RN exam.

How long does the program take?

This Remington College of Nursing program is 12 months and is taught in a system of quarters. Four (4) quarters of continuous enrollment are required.

Is there a part-time option?

No; this is currently a full-time program.

What is the admissions process?

A completed and signed Application Form.
An earned Bachelor of Science or a Bachelor of Arts degree from a nationally or regionally accredited institution, graduating with at least at 2.50 grade point average (GPA). An official transcript is required as part of the application package.
A completed FDLE/FBI criminal background check.
One academic and one professional reference.
A resumé or curriculum vita.
A personal statement essay.
An interview.
A $50 application fee.

Are there any prerequisites for applying?

Applicants must have successfully completed all prerequisite courses at the time of application. A prerequisite science course GPA of 2.75 and an overall GPA of 2.5 is needed to apply to the program.

Following are the required prerequisite courses:

Anatomy and Physiology (8 semester credit hours/ 12 quarter credit hours, Parts I and II, with lab)
Microbiology (4 semester credit hours/ 6 quarter credit hours, 1 semester, lab included)
Chemistry (4 semester credit hours/ 6 quarter credit hours, 1 semester, lab included)
Statistics (3 semester credit hours/ 4.5 quarter credit hours)
Social Science: Sociology or Psychology (3 semester credit hours/ 4.5 quarter credit hours)
Human Growth and Development or Developmental Psychology (3 semester credit hours/ 4.5 quarter credit hours)

How can I verify whether I have taken all of the prerequisite courses?

Remington College of Nursing has dedicated staff members who will be happy to assess your readiness for application. You are encouraged to visit us at the College so that we can evaluate your transcripts in person.

Can I apply without completing all of my prerequisite coursework?

Students may have one prerequisite course in progress at the time of application. Preference will be given to those applicants who have completed all prerequisite courses.

Do I need to take my prerequisite courses at Remington College?

No; you may take your prerequisite courses at any accredited college or university, including local community colleges. It may be helpful to meet with one of our admissions representatives before enrolling to make sure that you have the courses required to meet our admissions standards.

Prerequisite courses may also be taken online, as long as you have the correct number of classroom (theory) and lab credits. Lab credits from online courses, which are usually designated as "virtual" courses, are acceptable.

Is there a time limit on my prerequisite courses, particularly my science courses?

No; there is no time limit. But remember: having current knowledge will help you to succeed in your nursing coursework, so the more recent your coursework, the better.

What grade point average do I need to have in order to apply?

To apply to the accelerated program, you must have an overall GPA of at least 2.50 and a separate prerequisite science GPA of at least 2.75.

Can I work while attending this program?

Due to the intensity of the BSN Program, we do not recommend that you work during this year-long program. Classes may be scheduled on any of the five days during the workweek, and clinical sessions are arranged to provide you with optimal learning experiences. Clinical sessions may be held on days, evenings, nights and weekends. We also recommend that reliable childcare be arranged, as schedules may change often depending on clinical agency and faculty member availability.
